Building Rustic Deck Railing...We're Getting There

Soon our rustic deck railing will be completed and you'll get to see the finished product (and won't have to read any more about it).  But we're getting there, and I have to share our current progress...I had a middle-of-the-night creative design idea that would also lend some strength where the top rails join at the posts and I figured you'd wanna know about it!

This is only two of the post connections, but you'll get the gist of the approach.

One rail connection at the post before...
 ...working...
 ...finished.

Another rail connection at the post before...
 ...working...
 ...finished.

By connecting a section of rhododendron to each rail, the post and other connecting points, the two rails are tied together making everything stronger...it's a long way from the deck to the ground so we want this rail as strong as it can be!

We sure do like it, this will be the one-and-only deck like it!  Maybe 'Lise & Johny's Rustic Deck Railing Creations' is something that will unfold in our future...OK, maybe not, I mentioned it to Johny and he said "do you realize how many hours we've been working on this???"...I guess he really likes being retired and doing things like this just for us...LOL!

Thanks for reading my blog, you are the best f/f/r/s/f's, see you tomorrow,
Lise
