Our First Vine Ripened Tomato

We didn't have much luck with tomatoes last year, they all got late blight, which pretty much wiped out our crop, except for those tomatoes we harvested while still green (and they still had some late blight spotting).  This is our one and only tomato that has ripened right on the vine!  I've been watching it closely ever since the fruit first appeared and today we decided it was time to harvest this beauty...it did have a spot on the back side of the fruit, more about that shortly...I know it could have ripened a little more, but we were concerned about the spot, so off the vine it came!
The red looks pretty against that basket of green beans!  Yes, happy to say our beans are still producing beautifully!

The spot did affect a small portion of the fruit, but fortunately it didn't infect the whole tomato...
...and when I cut the spots out I had tomato love:)...looks a little like a heart...
It tastes sweet with just a hint of not quite ripe yet, is a lovely red, the fruit firm, juicy and delicious...it's exciting that it's our first and maybe one and only...the joys of gardening!

Thanks for reading my blog, you are the best f/f/r/s/f's, see you tomorrow,
Lise

Nothing better than a home grown tomato. Ours are already gone and the blight hit them so bad this year. To much rain, I'm guessing. Hugs, xo

So sorry to hear about your small crop of tomatoes. wish you were closer, I'm tired of canning them.

Bernie's had that blight, It's a pill to get rid of if ever you do!
