Spring Is Here!

Spring is here, there's no doubt about it.  Even if the weather and temperature are still trying to catch up with this reality, the sun tells the truth.  While the trees are still bare, the rays of the setting sun (about 8pm right now) linger long into our evening, sending beams of the sun's light and warmth through the cabin's windows that face NW until about 8:40 or so.  The good news for us is during the summer, when it is warm, the full canopy of the trees block most of those direct rays, so we get the light, but not the direct heat (well, to a certain degree)I share this with you because I don't think I ever noticed this before!

More spring evidence...my rhubarb has sprouted!  I'm so excited...I thought I killed it last year, so I'm happy and relieved to see the sprouts.  I love rhubarb...when I was young, we used to eat it fresh with a little bowl of sugar for dipping, oooh yum, I'm salivating just thinking about it!

And the maple leaves are opening; I do recall they were the first to sprout last year!  I showed you the buds not too long ago, but look, sprouting leaves!

Also, in anticipation of enjoying spring and in celebration of our 1 year of log cabin living, I ordered a fire pit for our new deck (on sale and free shipping, woo hoo!)  I put it together today, and now it has to be just a little less windy to get the first fire going...but I can't wait!

Are you doing anything special, in anticipation of spring?

Thanks for reading my blog, you are the best f/f/r/s/f's, see you tomorrow,
Lise

For spring . . . I am moving my bedding plants outside in the morning, back inside in the evening, over and over and over. LOL

OMGosh you are gonna be making me homesick for Virginia now. ha ha.

Follow you from my blog you most certainly grabbed my attention from your message you had left in my ABC Wednesday Letter L post.

In regards to what you had left at my blog...my question is..."How did you know I had lost someone close to me just by my quote on life being too short?

It will be two years on May 1st that I had lost my mom, however I lost more than my mother over the years.

Love your blog that is for sure! :)

Now Patti, that's dedication:)

Thanks for visiting Rosy. I made that comment because I lost my mother when she was only 51 and one of my brother a little over a year ago...both unexpectedly. I really connect with the need to make every moment count, because you never know what could happen. Sticking with the L theme...Live, Laugh, Love!

Lise, will you make rhubarb pie? We have a restaurant that makes strawberry-rhubarb pie. Is is so good. We never grew rhubarb where I grew up and I had never eaten it until I moved to the mountains.

On this lovely spring day, I was mostly inside at the Blue Ridge Writers Conference in Blue Ridge Georgia. It was fantastic, but I slipped outside when i could to soak up the sun.

The last time I was at the cabin my rhubarb was just peaking through. Mine grows in a smallish pot, so I always worry about the roots freezing during the winter, but this will be its third season. By the time I get back in about a week I might even have some stalks and nice big leaves. Some people have deck fire containers, but it worries me too much on our wood deck. - Margy

Yes Glenda, I will make rhubarb pie and many other delicious rhubarb delights...maybe jam too! This is only our second season of growing it, so I am hoping it actually produce enough to make pie!

I really wish I had known about the writers conference, I would love to have attended...next year I'll keep my eye out for it!

Margy, do you have any special rhubarb recipes? I'd love to know how you use it. As for the fire pit, I do understand the worries on a wood deck, I just have to keep a close eye on it. We would never leave it unattended...there is something so wonderful about a fire outside! We actually have two fire pits in the ground in the yard as well, but mostly use those for burning yard waste that can't go into the wood stove.

Thanks for visiting everyone!
