Honey Bees & the Balsam Pear Vine

As I walked along the river this morning, I encountered this...
...Honey Bees had built a nest inside the water meter box...he said they had probably been there for about 6 weeks...I sure wouldn't want to be the water meter reader who came upon this hive!  At one point he wasn't even wearing his gloves or mask, and when I asked if he was getting stung, he said "oh yeah"...not a job I would want to have...

I then heard a sound in the sky, and when I looked up, this is what I saw.  It flew by too quickly for me to get a close picture,  but it looked like a paddle boat with wings!

Later I came across this awesome Balsam Pear Vine pod...it's so colorful!
 The pod looks like this...
...and the bloom like this.  It also has medicinal properties, but I don't have my much trusted book with me here and my searches are not generating great information, so I'll let you search yourself if you are interested.

It was an interesting walk...lots of unexpected sightings!  Now I'm heading out for dinner with my friends...girl time!

Thanks for reading my blog, you are the best f/f/r/s/f's, see you tomorrow,
Lise
