I really enjoy the look of the bare trees that winter brings and what they reveal; I get to see where all the birds nests are! I discovered several up high in the Poplars surrounding the cabin. But this one was in a bare bush by the road, low enough for me to get a good look. A delicate masterpiece! The leaf inside seemed like an homage to the life that began in it. Next spring, I'll keep a close watch and see what bird may make this nest it's home.
I also find great satisfaction in way the bare branches create a tapestry against the sky. Naked nature. Incredible.
What does all this have to do with garden rocks? I happened to spy the little nest I mentioned earlier because we were working in the garden today...harvesting rocks. Yes, that's right! Our garden was full of rocks, some we had placed there as separators for the different produce sections (one of those things we learned was a bad idea and will not do again, makes it impossible to control weeds), and some seem to grow there (oh, I know, they don't grow there, but they do rise to the surface over time, this is a rocky mountain after all).
Here is today's harvest...
