The Amazing Night Blooming Cereus

The amazing night blooming cereus...blooms only at night, lasts only one night, and is spectacular!  There aren't many opportunities to see this beauty, one has to get out when the no light shines...

...I love the detail of the inside of this flower!

This is how the bud begins...a fluffy puff of hair attached to it's prickly cactus stem...

...which continues to grow...
...and prepare to bloom.

Though the flower blooms for only one night, it takes about 7 days from puff to bloom...and what a delight once it opens (if you are lucky enough to be up and see it)...
This is a backside of the flower, stunning in it's own way!

From the side...

I'm so happy I was able to see this in bloom while I was here!

This is what it looks like in the morning after it has closed its petals...also quite lovely!

Thanks for reading my blog, you are the best f/f/r/s/f's, see you tomorrow,
Lise

WOW, what time were you not sleeping and taking photographs?

It would be cool to set up a time lapse and capture it.

You are good!

Ha ha Patti, it wasn't that late...and yes, I think a time lapse series would be awesome. It's a magnificent flower!
