Making New Friends

Today, Dad, Donald & I went to visit some friends of theirs, Bob & Art.  We had a grand time, lots of laughs, giggles and new things I learned.

This is a flower I posted yesterday, but I didn't know what it was called.  I learned today, that it is a Pipsissewa or Prince's Pine.  One use was as a flavoring for candy and soft drinks, particularly root beer.  It is in the wintergreen family.

This is Bob playing the banjo...learned with some guidance but mostly self taught.  Very nice!

I learned that Bob & Art know some of the same people we know, including Eric (Eric's Fresh Fish Market an excellent fresh fish source in Sylva and Franklin), and that today is Eric's birthday...Happy Birthday Eric!

I also discovered that Bob has a nice collection of cast iron pans (as you know I love cast iron).  The two at the end of the photo below were salvaged from their home that was destroyed in the Peek's Creek landslide, a terrifying event that occurred in 2004, caused by the remnants of Hurricane Ivan.  I will be interviewing Bob for a up close and personal historical memoir of the disaster...keep posted for the story right here on my blog.

I learned what poison ivy looks like; I am sure we have some around our cabin, but I have never been sure of what it looks like.  It is extremely poisonous to some people (like Bob), not sure about me, but I don't want to find out!

This is all 4 long time friends together, as we were getting ready to leave.

I am looking forward to getting to know Bob & Art better, good people:)

Now, Johny, Dad, Donald & I are heading into Sylva so we can share our special town with them.  Stay tuned for pictures of that adventure tomorrow!

Oh, and the garden is still lookin' good, things are growing:)  That makes me happy!

Thanks for reading my blog, you are the best f/f/r/s/f's, see you tomorrow,
Lise

Aren't friendships grand! Love all the cast iron too. I have one skillet that is for cornbread only and it's slick as black glass.

Thanks ladies:) Slick as glass cast iron is hard to come by these days Mamabug! Bob was telling me he was going to sell some of their stuff on Craig's List, so I told him before he put any of that cast iron on there to let me know! LOL, would love to get my hands on what he has!
